Body Imaging Research Group

Mission

The Body Imaging Research Group is an umbrella organization of UCSF research labs that includes nearly 50 scientists, engineers, and clinicians who use MRI, CT, PET/SPECT, Ultrasound, and X-Ray to study abdominal and pelvic organs, the musculoskeletal system, and cancers in the body including world-leading research in breast and prostate cancer. We seek to improve our understanding of their fundamental and holistic role in health, with the goal of improving our ability to prevent and heal damage for healthier futures.

We specialize in the development, translation, and application of novel biomedical imaging methods to identify individualized treatment and reduced side effects for patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver conditions, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, chronic pain, and other diseases.

Body Imaging Research Directions

  • Musculoskeletal imaging and biomechanics
  • Prostate cancer imaging
  • Breast cancer imaging
  • Other cancers in the body
  • Image-guided treatment including using interventional devices, radiation therapy, focused ultrasound and theranostics
