Biography

Dr. Liina Pōder is Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, and an internationally recognized expert in obstetrical and gynecologic imaging. Her clinical and research interests focus on multimodality gynecologic and maternal-fetal imaging. She co-founded the UCSF Multidisciplinary Abnormal Placenta Service (MAPS) and the UCSF Endometriosis Center and serves on the core imaging team of the UCSF Fetal Treatment Center. A committed advocate for women's health, she has lectured extensively at national and international meetings.

Dr. Põder has been recognized for her excellence in education with the peer-nominated Excellence in Teaching Award (2015), the Robert D. Nachtigall, MD Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (2019), and the UCSF Health Clinical Faculty Excellence Award (2021).

Leadership & Service

From 2023 to 2026, Dr. Põder served as Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Subcommittee of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting Program Planning Committee (AMPPC). She is a Fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU), an active member of the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) Endometriosis and Uterine and Ovarian Disease-Focused Panels, and an expert editor for the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of UpToDate.

At the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Põder has served as Director of Ultrasound in the Abdominal Imaging Division since 2018. She is a member of the Executive, Quality & Safety, Clinical Operations, Faculty Search, and Postgraduate Education Committees.

Education and Training

Dr. Liina Põder began her medical education at the University of Tartu in Estonia before continuing her undergraduate and medical education in the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from George Washington University and subsequently received her Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, followed by a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at George Washington University Medical Center. She then completed a Clinical Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, where she subsequently joined the faculty.
