CRC Mentoring
Individual Mentoring and Fun-and-hands-on Research Exploration and Experimentation (IMFREE) Program for Radiology Core CRCs
A Deep-Dive Version of the IMFREE Program
Ideal for CRCs interested in applying to a grad school or a medical school in the future
Recommended duration: approximately 1 year and 3 months, between September and December
- Quarterly individual mentoring meetings
- A research project independently led by the CRC
- Bi-weekly research project meetings with PI
- Weekly writing group meetings with mentor and the other CRCs working on their research projects (currently, Wednesdays at 11am)
- Submission of a first-author research abstract to at least one conference/symposium
- Weekly research article Journal Club participation (currently, Thursdays at 3pm)
- Leading at least two discussions in the research article Journal Club
- Hands-on MRI scanning of fruit by the CRCs, supervised by Dr. Eugene Ozhinsky
- Monthly socializing gatherings at Spark with UCSF staff, faculty, students, fellows, and guests
- Auditing several lectures from the UCSF Master of Science in Biomedical Imaging (MSBI) course
- Learning about history of NMR/MRI, principles of MRI, fMRI, imaging study design, statistical analysis
- Shadowing a radiologist (coordinated by Dr. Jane Wang)
- Mock interviews for medical schools or PhD programs
- Potential co-authorship on a full-length review or research article

- Quarterly individual mentoring meetings with mentor
- Weekly research article Journal Club participation (currently, Thursdays at 3pm)
- Leading a discussion in the research article Journal Club
- Monthly socializing gatherings at Spark with UCSF staff, faculty, students, fellows, and guests
