Steven Hetts, MD Named a 2022 ACR Fellow
Last month, Steven Hetts, MD was named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR). The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging would like to congratulate Dr. Hetts on this recognition. Only 15 percent of current College members have been awarded this honor.
Dr. Hetts is a professor in the Neurointerventional Radiology Section at UCSF Radiology. As co-director of the Interventional Radiology Research Laboratory, Dr. Hetts is involved in translating basic science and engineering research into clinical applicability. The main theme of his research is development of novel image-guided endovascular devices and techniques for the treatment of stroke, tumors, vascular malformations, and other conditions accessible through the blood vessels or skin. He is also chief of Interventional Neuroradiology at the UCSF Mission Bay Hospitals and co-director of the UCSF Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Center of Excellence.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hetts has maintained an active clinical practice at UCSF Parnassus, treating patients with stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, spinal vascular malformations, and tumors including meningioma. He founded the Interventional Neuroradiology services at San Francisco General Hospital and the San Francisco Veteran’s Administration Hospital, where he served as Chief until 2015.
Fellowship is awarded to diagnostic radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, medical physicists and nuclear medicine physicians at the Convocation held during the ACR annual meeting, held on April 24 – 26, 2022. ACR Fellowship is awarded to members of the College in good standing who have:
- Demonstrated service to ACR; evidenced significant accomplishments in scientific or clinical research in the field of radiology
- Made significant contributions to literature; and/or provided outstanding work as a teacher of radiology
