Nola Hylton, PhD Receives 2022 ISMRM Gold Medal
The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is pleased to announce that Nola Hylton, PhD is a 2022 International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) Gold Medal recipient for her foundational work in breast MR imaging.
“We are exceptionally proud of Nola Hylton, PhD, for her recognition by the ISMRM with the 2022 Gold Medal. Dr. Hylton has produced foundational work in MRI breast imaging and is recognized internationally for her wide-ranging innovations in the field,” says Christopher Hess, MD, PhD, Alexander R. Margulis Distinguished Professor and Chair at UCSF Radiology. “As an exemplary educator, Dr. Hylton is a generous mentor and sponsor for the next generation of scholars. The ISMRM Gold Medal is a fitting honor for Dr. Hylton's contributions in translating MRI science to the improved care of breast cancer patients.
Dr. Hylton’s current research program focuses on the development and clinical evaluation of MRI techniques for characterizing breast cancers and assessing their response to treatment. Her laboratory collaborates closely with a multi-disciplinary team of radiologists, surgeons, oncologists, and science researchers nationwide. This is to optimize MRI techniques for the clinical management of breast cancer patients.
Dr. Hylton is a professor in residence at UCSF Radiology and director of the Breast Imaging Research Group whose vision is to advance breast imaging-based approaches for breast cancer diagnosis, leading to earlier detection, reduction of disease recurrence and improved survival. She is an internationally known leader in the field of breast MRI for more than 20 years and has been integrally involved in the development of magnetic resonance imaging for the detection, diagnosis, and staging of breast cancer.
This medal is awarded to recognize a major research contribution to the field of magnetic resonance within the scope of the Society. Dr. Hylton received this award on May 9, 2022, at the society's annual meeting in London.
