Jessica Hayward, MD, and Amie Lee, MD Inducted as 2021 SBI Fellows

On April 26, 2021, the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) inducted nine new Fellows. The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is pleased to announce that Jessica Hayward, MD and Amie Lee, MD, associate professors of clinical radiology in the Breast Imaging section are among this class.

According to the SBI, FSBI distinction is granted to SBI members who demonstrate leadership in breast imaging. Candidates should be able to identify success in three of the following categories:

  1. Breast-related scientific or academic accomplishment
  2. Medical education related to breast imaging, breast disease, or breast wellness
  3. Administrative or political activities impacting breast health
  4. Service to patients or to the SBI

Overall, only five percent of SBI members have been awarded this honor. Drs. Hayward and Lee join other UCSF Radiology faculty who have earned this esteemed distinction - Bonnie Joe, MD, PhD (chief of breast imaging), Edward Sickles, MD (professor emeritus), Elissa Price, MD (associate professor) and Kimberly Ray, MD (associate professor). Nola Hylton, PhD, professor in residence, was inducted as an SBI Honorary Fellow in 2019.

Dr. Lee’s research focus is on improving the delivery of high-quality care to patients undergoing breast imaging. Dr. Lee also has a strong interest in resident and fellow education. In addition, Dr. Lee is a member of the UCSF Global Cancer Program faculty and leader of Global Cancer Program radiology collaborations in Tanzania.

Dr. Hayward strives to better the health of women through her clinical work and research in the breast imaging section. Her mission is to detect and diagnose breast cancer as early as possible. In research, Dr. Hayward focuses on improving the practice of breast imaging for cancer detection.
