UCSF Radiology Faculty Participate in the ARRS CEDP Program
Last month, Preeti Sukerkar, MD, PhD and Hailey Choi, MD attended the Clinical Educator Development Program (CEDP) hosted by the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS). The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging would like to recognize these two faculty members, chosen from a nationwide pool of applicants.
The CEDP takes place each year during the ARRS Annual Meeting, and it is designed to be a highly interactive, focused day of learning new teaching skills and tools, and improving skills that junior faculty members already have. Over half the program is hands-on learning, and it's also an excellent opportunity to meet with other enthusiastic clinician educators with opportunities to network further with faculty and attendees.
"I was very grateful to have this opportunity," says Dr. Choi, who is an assistant professor of Clinical Radiology in the Abdominal Imaging and Ultrasound sub-specialties at UCSF Radiology. "I've learned so much including how to focus my talks, engage the audience, deliver feedback and even gained a new network of clinical educators worldwide."
Dr. Sukerkar, assistant clinical professor in the Musculoskeletal Imaging Section, echoes Dr. Choi and adds, "I was incredibly impressed by the ARRS Clinical Educator Development Program and am thankful for having had the opportunity to attend. I left the course feeling inspired and with the support of new friends and colleagues who are similarly passionate about education. I gained many new skills that I am confident will make me a more effective educator. I plan to use this new knowledge to engage our younger trainees and hopefully recruit more medical students into radiology."
Dr. Sukerkar is a radiology residency site director at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) and is also a UCSF School of Medicine Bridges Coach.
Each year, chairpersons and medical directors at medical schools, affiliated hospitals, and clinical research institutions are invited to nominate two candidates per institution for this program. Only 30 junior faculty are selected overall. The CEDP is funded by The Roentgen Fund® of the ARRS.
