Thank a Resident and Fellow Day 2025

Join us in thanking our resident and fellow physicians on Thank a Resident and Fellow Day, February 28, 2025. Their commitment to excellence advances patient care and inspires our mission to educate the next generation of radiologists. We extend our thanks, as well, to the expert faculty and administrative leadership of our residency and fellowship programs.

Radiology Residents Class of 2028

Our 61 radiology residents and 41 fellows dedicate long hours— including in the middle of the night—balancing their roles in patient care, groundbreaking research, and developing new innovative ideas.

But their impact goes beyond that. Trainees are also teachers, and one of the greatest joys of academic medicine is the learning that flows both ways—whether in conferences, reading rooms, interventional suites, or clinics. In these busy days, we sometimes overlook the moment to acknowledge their tremendous contributions to our practice, our culture, and our community: the tough diagnosis a resident or fellow makes after devouring medical records and talking to care teams, a new scientific idea that is conceived out of a clinical question, or transformative approaches to care that push our field forward.

Today, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our residents and fellows. Your dedication, curiosity, and hard work not only strengthen our department but also shape the future of radiology. We are grateful for all that you do!

At UCSF Radiology Training Programs, we celebrate “Thank a Resident and Fellow Day” not just on one day, but every single day!  We are deeply grateful for their dedication, teamwork, and excellence in delivering the highest quality patient care through diagnostic and procedural imaging care. Radiology is the backbone of modern medicine, providing critical insights that guide diagnoses and treatment plans across all specialties. Working with faculty, our trainees’ hard work, attention to detail, and tireless efforts behind the scenes ensure that our patients receive accurate and timely care. Our trainees’ resilience, curiosity and passion for radiology inspire all those around them.

Happy Thank a Resident and Fellow Day to our trainees and we send them a heartfelt message of appreciation and gratitude for their extraordinary contributions to our mission over the past year.

On this Resident Appreciation Day, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for our Interventional Radiology residents. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to learning do not go unnoticed. Day in and day out, you navigate complex cases, tackle challenging procedures, and provide compassionate care to our patients—all while continuing to grow as physicians and leaders in our field.

Interventional radiology demands not only technical excellence but also resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. You embody these qualities every day, making a lasting impact on both your colleagues and the patients who rely on your expertise. Your enthusiasm for innovation and your relentless pursuit of excellence inspires all of us.

Thank you for your passion, your perseverance, and your contributions to our specialty. It is a privilege to work alongside you.

Neuroradiology Fellows

I am blown away every day that I work with UCSF residents and fellows!  I learn something new from them every day, and it is genuinely one of the most enjoyable parts of my work to spend time with them in the reading room.  Thank you all for always taking great care of our patients!

Andreas Rauschecker, MD, PhD, Associate Director, Neuroradiology Fellowship Program

Neurointerventional Imaging Fellows

One of the most rewarding aspects of working with our talented residents and fellows is seeing their dedication, curiosity and growth. Thank you for your commitment to outstanding patient care and teamwork, and for inspiring us with your passion for learning. We’re grateful for all you do!

Zhen Jane Wang, MD, Professor of Radiology, Division Chief, Abdominal Imaging

Body Imaging Fellows

We owe a huge debt to our clinical body imaging fellows who bring the highest-level expertise and dedication to care for our ever-growing patient population and deftly advise our clinical colleagues on the most complex cases. Each day our fellows contribute to making UCSF a world leader in abdominal imaging.

Benjamin Yeh, MD, Professor of Radiology, Program Director, Body Imaging Fellowship

Breast Imaging Fellows

The six breast imaging fellows work incredibly hard every day to provide compassionate, patient centered care. They are often the first physician the breast cancer patient encounters on their path to breast cancer care. The fellows take time out of their busy days reading scans to counsel patients on next steps of diagnosis and management. We are so lucky to have them at UCSF and could not run the breast imaging service without their hard work.

Jessica Hayward, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology, Program Director, Breast Imaging Fellowship

I am constantly impressed by the clinical and academic excellence displayed by our residents and fellows—facilitating their growth and success is truly the best part of my job! Thank you all for your unwavering dedication to our patients and mission, we are so lucky to have you!

Kevin Sweetwood, MD, Assistant Professor, Director, Musculoskeletal Fellowship Program
