Recognizing UCSF Radiology’s Medical Imaging Team During COVID-19

Thank you to all UCSF Medical Center Radiology staff – you are the essential workers who continue to provide essential services during this time. To be "essential" is to not often have the option to choose to stay home.  I'm incredibly thankful for the sacrifice you – and your families – are making to keep us all safe.  Please know that you are appreciated more than ever.

Our essential workers are professionals in radiology and this is what has been said about them from their profession organizations.

Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Week:  October 4-10

This year's theme for Nuclear Medicine week was: Transforming medicine. Improving lives. The theme varies from year to year, but the goal is always the same: pride in what nuclear medicine and molecular imaging have brought to the healthcare environment over the years. It is important that we educate others (patients, referring physicians, students, and even politicians) on the utility of nuclear medicine procedures and their benefits over other treatment and imaging modalities. We want to thank and recognize the nuclear technologists that provide care to our patients at UCSF.

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month – October 2020

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) is held annually in October to create awareness of the role diagnostic medical sonographers play in the medical community and to educate the public about medical ultrasound and its many uses in healthcare. Although much of the general public is familiar with the use of medical ultrasound during pregnancy, many people are unaware that ultrasound can be used throughout all stages of life and for various medical indications. This year's theme was: United We Scan!

National Radiologic Technology Week November 8-14

National Radiologic Technology Week celebrates the important role medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals play in patient care and health care safety. The celebration takes place each year during the week that includes November 8 to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895. This year's theme is: Building on Our History, Creating the Future.

All three of these professions bring an expertise to the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging across all sites and provide the necessary expertise in patient safety and quality imaging. Congratulations to all of them and to the entire radiology team.
