UCSF's Ingrid Mcgraw brings both compassion and leadership to her role as a Radiology Patient Navigator. During Women in Medicine Month, she shares why advocating for patients, mentoring colleagues, and amplifying women's voices is essential to health care.

Congrats to Anil Bidkar, PhD, a postdoctoral scholar in Robert Flavell’s Molecular Imaging Lab who has been awarded the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Cancer Institute. Bidkar’s research focuses on developing next-generation targeted therapies for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).

UCSF is first in the Bay Area to offer histotripsy for patients with liver tumors. This FDA-approved non-invasive, no-radiation procedure may be an option for patients who are not candidates for traditional ablation, surgery, or radiation therapy. Histotripsy may also be an option for patients with tumors located very close to critical structures, which may be difficult or unsafe to treat with other modalities.

Efforts at UCSF Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging are underway to make MRI appointments safer, more predictable, and more comfortable for every patient. A new initiative led by UCSF's MR Safety Committee focuses on clear communication, thoughtful preparation, and consistent practices designed to improve the patient experience.

Xiaoxi Liu, PhD is postdoctoral scholar working to improve MRI sequence design and image reconstruction, with a strong emphasis on hyperpolarized carbon-13 MRI and proton hydrogen MRI. She created an open-source acquisition toolbox for these imaging modalities.
