Course Outline

This course will present the fundamentals and latest developments of prostate cancer imaging and management. The combination of lectures and hands-on workstations offers a unique opportunity for practicing physicians to become proficient in performing a comprehensive imaging evaluation of patients with prostate cancer at all stages. 
The course will instruct in how to perform, interpret and report a multi-parametric (mpMRI) prostate exam in a time-efficient and accurate manner. The hands-on US-MRI fusion biopsy workshop will demonstrate how this technology is utilized to improve patient care.  

Thursday = full-day lecture sessions (6.25 credits)
Friday AM = mpMRI workstation session (5.25 credits)
Friday PM = US-MRI Fusion Biopsy workstation session (3.0 credits)
Registration is limited to 20 persons

At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:
1.    Demonstrate familiarity with the relevant clinical aspects of prostate cancer;
2.    Perform and interpret a multiparametric prostate MRI exam at 1.5 and 3T;
3.    Describe the critical findings and recognize potential pitfalls in interpretation of a multiparametric prostate MRI;
4.    Create a clinically pertinent report of the findings on a multiparametric prostate MRI;
5.    Be familiar with other advanced imaging techniques for prostate cancer;
6.    Process and prepare the MRI data for an MRI-US fusion biopsy;
7.    Perform an MRI-US fusion biopsy.

The workshop is held at the UCSF China Basin Research Center at 185 Berry Street (at Fourth Street), Lobby 6, 3rd Floor.  The Center is located on the southeast side of the city, next to the baseball stadium, and one block from the CalTrain station.
Attendees staying at one of the downtown hotels should note that the UCSF China Basin Center is approximately one mile from Union Square, or a 25-30 minute walk from Market Street.  China Basin is on the N-Judah streetcar line, which is accessible from any of the four underground Market Street Muni stations (click on "Travel to SF" link above).  The N-Judah stops one short block from the China Basin Center.
