We are writing with the news that our long-time colleague, mentor, teacher, and friend Harry K. Genant, MD, passed away peacefully at his home in Napa on January 14.

The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging noted a significant milestone for both the department and the UCSF Center for Intelligent Imaging (ci2) - full deployment of an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled portable x-ray device into our clinical environment.

Courtney Lawhn Heath, MD, took the lead on a recent prospective pilot study, published in EJNMMI Research, to determine the feasibility and utility of [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/MRI in thyroid cancer patients.

January is National Mentoring Month. At the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, Academic Affairs has incorporated a formal mentoring program for junior faculty into our departmental structure. 

As this history of 2020 is being written, the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging would like to take a moment to recognize this year’s highlights in service, patient care, research and education as well as the many department members who advocate for racial justice. 

In 2021, we will host our UCSF Radiology Annual Review live online from January 11 –15, 2021. The live, interactive virtual conference will be taught by 50 UCSF Radiology faculty and will review the fundamentals of the major organ systems and corresponding imaging modalities.
