Welcoming Rajesh Shah, MD, to UCSF's Interventional Radiology Division

Rajesh Shah, MDThe University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging welcomes Rajesh Shah, MD, to the Interventional Radiology (IR) division as a Professor of Clinical Radiology and Director of Clinical Trials.

Dr. Shah earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago and a vascular and IR fellowship at Stanford University Hospital.  

Dr. Shah brings a wealth of experience from other prestigious medical institutions. Before joining UCSF, he served as the Director of IR at the California Pacific Medical Center, was a Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University, and worked as an Interventional Radiologist at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. His experience also includes private practice and faculty roles at Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

As an educator, Dr. Shah has mentored junior IR faculty at the VA Palo Alto, Stanford University and California Pacific Medical Center. He has mentored trainees on research grants and created the VA resident rotation and "mini-fellowship" for IR-bound residents. Dr. Shah serves as the Society for Interventional Radiology (SIR) Division Councilor for Quality and Performance Improvement, overseeing several committees dedicated to quality. In this role, he developed the SIR's Quality Improvement program and launched the VIRTEX Clinical Data Analytics Platform.
