Nola Hylton, PhD Inducted into the National Academy of Engineering

Headshot of Nola Hylton, PhD, recently inducted into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is pleased to announce that Nola Hylton, PhD has been inducted into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Class of 2022. Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Dr. Hylton is a professor at UCSF Radiology and director of the Breast Imaging Research Group. Dr. Hylton's impressive accomplishments include being an internationally known leader and recognized authority in the field of breast MRI for over 20 years. Election of new NAE members is the culmination of a yearlong process. A ballot is set in December with the final vote for membership during January. Dr. Hylton was elected to the NAE based on the following:

“For engineering development and leadership in breast cancer MRI and multicenter national trials, improving the health of millions of women.”

Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." 

Individuals in the newly elected class, comprised of 111 new members and 22 international members, will be formally inducted during the NAE's annual meeting on October 2, 2022.
