It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of our former Chairman and friend, Dr. Alexander Margulis. Alex, as he preferred to be called, was a global visionary leader of radiology, beloved by physicians at UCSF and throughout the world. He will certainly be missed.

Recent studies have looked at Twitter use by health care professionals and have found many, especially those in the field of academic medicine, are using the platform quite frequently. UCSF Radiology’s marketing team has put together a list of Twitter Tips.

Deep learning has become a powerful tool in radiology in recent years. Researchers at the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging have started using deep learning methods to characterize joint degeneration and osteoarthritis, which will ultimately reduce the number of total joint replacements.

Dr. Rahul Desikan's study of genetics and ALS research is groundbreaking. He is seeking funding for his research project that will help improve understanding of ALS, identify new therapeutic targets and find out ways to prevent this neurodegenerative disease.

Ruth Goldstein, MD has had a tremendous career with the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. Join us in congratulating Ruth on her well-deserved retirement. We are fortunate that Dr. Goldstein has returned part-time after a brief break.
