Collaboration Fostered in Radiology-Psychiatry Arena

A recent meeting was held with researchers from the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. The collaborative planning meeting was the first step towards enhanced collaboration between the two groups in order to better serve patients clinically through advancing neurological research.

Together with researchers from the Department of Psychiatry, we have ongoing projects in the fields of depression, autism, and schizophrenia.  These cross-disciplinary research investigations will allow us to develop a better understanding of the changes to the brain, anatomically and functionally.  The studies will also allow us to look at treatment effects, ultimately leading to improved patient care.

Our January 29th meeting aimed to foster improved exchange between UCSF Psychiatry and UCSF Radiology.  The presentations focused on new technologies and how they are applicable to neuroscience research and clinical practice.

15 faculty members from the two departments with 40 trainees and staff attended the joint meeting.  The faculty included: Bill Dillon, MD, Christopher Hess, MD, PhD, Sarah Nelson, PhD, Sri Nagarajan, PhD, Pratik Mukherjee, MD, PhD, Leo Sugrue, MD, Sharmila Madjumar, PhD, Duygu Tosun, PhD from Radiology; Irina Strigo, PhD, Judy Ford, PhD, Tom Neylan, MD, Jyoti Mishra, PhD, Susanna Fryer, PhD, Kaja Lewinn, ScD, Sabra Inslicht, PhD, from Psychiatry.

Psychiatry and Radiology research teams look forward to heightened collaboration and potentially groundbreaking neurological research achievements. Check back soon for updates.
