When Mark Mamlouk, MD, walks into UCSF as a volunteer, he’s not just stepping into a familiar hospital; he’s returning to a place that helped shape his career. For over a decade, he has donated his time as a neuroradiologist, educator, and mentor, building connections that span generations of trainees and touching lives well beyond the reading room.

High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography scans obtained over time can be combined to produce a “virtual biopsy” that can reliably assess bone turnover in patients with chronic kidney disease and thus inform treatment.

Amy Acuna and the radiology team she leads welcomed patients to the new UCSF Health Peninsula Outpatient Center (POPC) in downtown Burlingame on Monday, February 24, expanding access for patients living on the Peninsula.

“Patient safety isn’t just a responsibility—it’s our culture,” says Patient Safety Officer Alpana Patel Camilli, BS, CRA, (R) (CT), manager of Interventional Radiology, Neuroendovascular Surgery and interim manager of Diagnostic Radiology.  “This Patient Safety Week we’re uniting to ensure every patient receives safe, high-quality care, beyond checklists and protocols.”

Dr. Christine Glastonbury has been named the Elizabeth A. Guillaumin Endowed Chair in Neuroradiology. Dr. Bonnie Joe has been named the inaugural Edward A. Sickles Professor in Breast Imaging and will also serve as associate chair for faculty mentoring.
