    Dr. Panicek serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and as Director of Educational Programs in the Department of Radiology at Memorial Hospital, and as Vice Chairman of the Graduate Medical Education Committee at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Panicek received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York in 1980. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency at The New York Hospital, New York, in 1984, serving as Chief Resident in 1983-84. From 1984-1988 he was a faculty radiologist and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse. In 1988 he joined the faculty at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and was appointed Assistant Professor of Radiology (1988-93), Associate Professor of Radiology (1994-98) and Professor of Radiology (1999-present) at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Panicek is the recipient of the New York Presbyterian Hospital radiology residents’ Robin C. Watson Award for Excellence in Radiology Teaching.

Dr. Panicek’s research interests have covered a range of topics in oncologic imaging, evaluating the effectiveness of various imaging techniques used in the diagnosis and care of patients with cancer. He was the lead investigator on a National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health multi-institutional project that compared CT and MR imaging for the staging of musculoskeletal cancers. His clinical and research focus for the last fifteen years has been musculoskeletal tumor imaging.

Dr. Panicek is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and an elected member of the International Skeletal Society. He has served as Co-Chair of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Task Force on Oncologic Imaging and Therapy, and on the editorial board of Radiology.  He currently serves on the editorial board of Skeletal Radiology.
