Coronary Stents

  1. Date of coronary stent placement and device manufacturer should be documented prior to MRI.
  2. If confirmed coronary stent details remain unknown despite reasonable attempts to locate them, proceed with MRI at either 1.5T or 3T.
  3. All current, commercially available coronary stents may be imaged at 1.5T or 3T at any time:
  • Maximum whole-body-averaged specific absorption rate (SAR) of 2-W/kg in Normal Operating Mode.
  • Maximum 15 min of scanning (per sequence).

As there are no known coronary stents made from ferromagnetic metallic materials, it is not necessary to wait 6 weeks or longer for MRI scanning.
