Dr. Frank Miller serves as the Chief of the Body Imaging Section and is the former Fellowship Director of the Body MR-Predominant Imaging Fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he also holds the role of Medical Director of MR. He is the Lee F. Rogers, MD, Endowed Professor of Medical Education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. From 2024 to 2025, he served as President of the Society of Abdominal Radiology. Dr. Miller is the Consulting Editor for Radiologic Clinics of North America and the Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Clinical Radiology.

He completed his medical education through the Honors Program at Northwestern University, followed by residency at Northwestern and a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University. He also completed a mini-fellowship in Gastrointestinal Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Miller is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, the Society of Advanced Body Imaging (SABI), and the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR). He was a Figley Fellow in Journalism for the Abdominal Radiology journal and previously served as Section Editor for Gastrointestinal Radiology at the American Journal of Roentgenology. He has held prestigious lectureships including the SAR Igor Laufer Visiting Professorship and the Richard H. Marshak International Lectureship, and chaired the SAR Disease Focus Panel on Liver Fibrosis. He has participated in numerous film panels for SAR, SCBTMR/SABI, and RSNA, and has been recognized in Chicago Magazine’s “Top Doctors” issue. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and academic institutions.

His research focuses on body MR and CT, particularly in pancreatic and hepatobiliary imaging, oncologic imaging, and genitourinary topics such as renal, adrenal, and prostate imaging. He is especially interested in advanced imaging technologies like diffusion-weighted imaging and MR elastography, for which he received the Clinical Innovation Award at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Miller has authored over 300 scientific papers and coauthored two books on gastrointestinal and genitourinary radiology. He contributed to the development of ACR guidelines for liver MR and has served on the ACR Appropriateness Criteria Committees for GI and Abdominal Radiology, as well as the RSNA QIBA committee on MR elastography.

He has played a key role in national guideline development for chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer staging, and LIRADS. As principal investigator and co-investigator, he was involved in several NIH-funded research projects in liver, pancreatic, and prostate imaging and elastography. Dr. Miller has received multiple teaching honors, including the Teacher of the Year Award from residents and the Lifetime Honored Educator Award from the Radiological Society of North America. As a fellowship director, he has trained over 100 fellows.
