Alexandra Gersing, MD, Joins the UCSF Musculoskeletal Division
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging welcomes Alexandra Gersing, MD, to the Musculoskeletal Division as a faculty member.
Dr. Gersing earned her medical degree from the University of Hamburg and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In 2019, she completed a radiology residency followed by a musculoskeletal imaging fellowship in 2020, both at the University Hospital of the TUM. She completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at UCSF in 2016.
Dr. Gersing has experience as a professor of radiology at the University Hospital of Munich and the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, where she was also the Director of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and AI Research.
Dr. Gersing leads multidisciplinary teams applying MRI in patient care and research projects focusing on musculoskeletal imaging and artificial intelligence. Her research is published in top journals such as Radiology, Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, American Journal of Sports Medicine and European Radiology. In 2023, she was awarded the Wilhelm-Conrad-Roentgen Prize from the German Society of Radiology and the Seed Grant of the International Skeletal Society. She is a member of the editorial board of several journals.
