What We Offer

The Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging at UCSF Radiology provides advanced imaging of the heart, lungs, and thoracic vasculature, with a particular focus on complex thoracic and cardiac disease. Our internationally recognized faculty specialize in interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, advanced cardiac CT and MRI, and CT-guided lung biopsies. Using state-of-the-art CT (including Photon Counting CT) and MRI we prioritize image quality, patient safety, and low radiation exposure.

We are leaders in the evaluation of complex cardiac conditions—including coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, valvular and congenital heart disease—as well as advanced pulmonary disorders such as interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, post-transplant complications, and complex post-surgical thoracic cases. We perform a high volume of CT-guided lung biopsies and localization procedures, supporting multidisciplinary cancer care.

Through close collaboration with cardiology, pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, oncology, and many other referring services, we work collaboratively to support adult and pediatric patients across the full spectrum of cardiothoracic disease.

Spotlight: Lung Cancer

“As a radiologist and artificial intelligence researcher, we're integrating the patients' first lung cancer screening into risk stratification to answer the question, ‘Should we continue scanning this patient every year?’"
