Hamed Kordbacheh, MD

Dr. Kordbacheh joined the department as Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology, Abdominal Imaging. He earned his MD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed postdoctoral research fellowships in Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, before his internship at Griffin Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine. He then completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Wayne State University, followed by a fellowship in abdominal imaging at UCSF.

Dr. Kordbacheh's research focuses on advanced imaging techniques in abdominal radiology, including the application of dual-energy CT for assessing therapeutic response in cancer and advanced MRI techniques. He has contributed to studies on hepatobiliary, prostate, and colorectal cancer imaging, earning research awards from the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR), and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

During his residency, Dr. Kordbacheh served as chair of the Research and Innovation Committee and member of the mentorship program and was recognized with several Resident Teacher Awards. He is also a co-author of two book chapters on abdominal imaging.

Christopher Murphy, MD

Dr. Murphy joined the department as Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in Emergency Radiology and Abdominal Imaging. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona College of Engineering & Mines and his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He completed his internship at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, and served as a Naval Undersea/Diving Medical Officer before completing a diagnostic radiology residency and abdominal imaging fellowship at UCSF.

During his service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Murphy held roles as a primary care provider for marines, submariners, divers, and special operators in high-risk submarine, diving, and expeditionary environments. His roles included Chief Saturation Diving Medical Officer for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations and back-to-back U.S. Navy Arctic expeditions.

Dr. Murphy's research interests include resident education, the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging, emergency room imaging resource utilization and optimization, and underwater diving physiology. As a project lead at UCSF, he is currently developing an AI algorithm to improve the quality of CT imaging for pulmonary artery embolisms. His prior research involved studying neurological disorders using MRI and PET imaging.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kordbacheh and Dr. Murphy to UCSF!
