UCSF Welcomes Zhaoyang Fan, PhD

The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is pleased to welcome Zhaoyang Fan, PhD, as Professor In Residence and leader of the Vascular & Cardiac Imaging Research Group. He received his bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University, an MSc in medical physics from McMaster University, and his doctorate in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University. Prior to joining UCSF, he was a tenured associate professor of radiology and director of MR Imaging Research at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, with joint appointments in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Radiation Oncology, and Pediatrics.

Dr. Fan's work focuses on the development and clinical translation of novel magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and machine learning methods for fast and precise assessment of human diseases. His research interests include diagnosis and characterization of vascular and cardiac diseases, quantitative cancer imaging, and MR-guided radiation therapy. He has authored over 170 peer-reviewed publications and more than 300 conference abstracts, and is the Principal Investigator of several NIH-funded projects.

He is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and a Distinguished Investigator of the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research. He is also an active reviewer for national and international funding agencies, conferences, and journals.
