Thank a Resident and Fellow Day 2026

FacebookEmailLinkedin

Every year, we celebrate Thank a Resident and Fellow Day to recognize our outstanding radiology residents and fellows and all that they contribute to our department and UCSF. This year we hosted breakfast for trainees at Parnassus and ZSFG as a token of our appreciation for their expertise in clinical care, their accomplishments in research, and their service ethic.

In this article we share photos of each residency class and fellowship group along with messages of gratitude from faculty leadership.

“Our department is frequently singled out as having the best training programs in the country. I hope that you experience a huge sense of personal pride when you consider yourself as part of that brand. I see this excellence personally at the workstation during readouts and when we do procedures together. I see it in conferences and case discussions. I see it in the way you support one another as a team. Most of all, I see it in the way you care for our patients — with compassion, thoughtfulness, and professionalism — as you build on your own skills and reputation.”

Thank you all for being part of UCSF.

Christopher Hess, MD, PhD
Professor and Chair

“On this Thank a Resident Day, I would like to personally extend my sincere gratitude to our radiology residents for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. Your tireless work, clinical skill, and compassion with empathy for patients form the foundation of our program and exemplify the highest standards of our profession.

Each day, you meet demanding challenges with integrity, teamwork, and resilience, and your contributions to excellent health care delivery do not go unnoticed. It is a privilege to work with such a talented and dedicated group of physicians, and I am deeply proud of the role you play in caring for our patients, supporting your colleagues, and advancing our department’s mission.

Today, we celebrate you. Thank you for all that you do, and for the difference you make, today and every day!”

Soonmee Cha, MD
Program Director and Vice Chair of Education

“It is difficult to put into words the love, respect, and appreciation I have for each and every one of you. You inspire me and remind me how grateful I am to do the work we are so fortunate to pursue as radiologists every day (and night).

Your positive energy, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to patient care do not go unnoticed. You rise to the demands of busy mornings in the reading room and late nights on call with the three critical H’s: humanity, humility, and humor, with a constant desire to improve.

It is a privilege and an honor to teach you (at least try), learn from you, and watch you grow into exceptional radiologists and leaders of our field. UCSF Radiology is stronger because of you, and I am truly proud to be part of this journey together.”

“Sending a heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing team of Body Imaging fellows. This year has been particularly challenging on many levels. Nevertheless, each one of our fellows stepped up, day after day, bringing energy, cheer, and thoughtfulness to the reading room. We are deeply grateful for the professional manner in which you've supported the patients, residents, technologists, faculty, and our referring colleagues. Thank you also for helping with fellowship applicant recruitment at the many informational webinars, patiently providing insights and guidance to this year's applicants. And finally, thank you for your support of each other and us as we work to further improve our Body Imaging fellowship.”
