UCSF Patients Can Now Access Medical Images on MyChart

This month, UCSF Medical Center announced that patients can now see radiographic studies including X-rays, MRIs, CT scans and some ultrasounds on MyChart. Such a move is an additional step towards transparency and will allow patients to read reports and see images. We are the 19th Epic customer in the U.S. to use MyChart to make images available to patients, the second in California and the first University of California hospital.

Patients at UCSF have access to MyChart, an easy-to-use and confidential way to access your care team and medical information online. MyChart allows patients to do many things such from sending messages to their provider to refilling prescriptions to request appointments and much more. Patients are also able to view electronic health information.

The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging would like to recognize Marc Kohli, MD, associate professor and director of Clinical Informatics, for his efforts in bringing this improvement to the overall patient experience.

"I'm proud to be a part of this important work, inspired by the #Pinksocks movement and Dave deBronkart, aka e-Patient Dave, who spoke at the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) Annual Meeting this past year," says Dr. Kohli. Dr. Kohli is the chair-elect of SIIM.

This solution is powered by Epic, an electronic medical record system used by hospitals and health systems across the United States and worldwide and Client Outlook, Inc., a healthcare technology company focused on empowering the image viewing evolution from hospital department to healthcare enterprise.

The patient experience is something that we value very much at UCSF. In fact, we were one of the first medical centers in the country to conduct patient experience surveys and have been doing them now for over 20 years. For more information, you can visit UCSF Health's page on Patient Relations.
