The Human Side of Medical Imaging: Rad Tech Week at UCSF

As UCSF Imaging joins health care organizations across the country to celebrate Rad Tech Week, we recognize that our radiologic technologists do far more than operate imaging equipment; they guide patients through some of their most vulnerable moments. Their expertise transforms technology into care and moments of uncertainty into opportunities for healing.

Radiological technologists play an essential role in patient care, using imaging technologies such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, mammography, and ultrasound to help physicians diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses. Their work combines advanced technical expertise with empathy and precision, ensuring every patient receives safe and effective care.

At UCSF Imaging, we are proud to spotlight two of our remarkable technologists. Sandy Wu, Senior MRI Technologist at China Basin, finds fulfillment in being part of each patient's healing journey. "It's rewarding to witness my patients' progress and see them in better spirits," she shares. Sandy believes that compassion and empathy are the foundation of excellent patient care.

Elena Bonzani, Principal Mammography Technologist at PCMB, takes pride in the meaningful impact of her work. "Every mammogram I take plays a key role in helping doctors make accurate diagnoses," she says. "I value the chance to provide comfort and reassurance to my patients who may be anxious during their procedures."

On behalf of the UCSF Radiology Directors, the department shared a message of gratitude to the technologists who make exceptional care possible every day. "You are the vital link that transforms the unseen into a clear image, guiding diagnosis and treatment for countless patients," the directors wrote. "Your role is fundamental to the entire health care team, and we are profoundly grateful for your unwavering dedication."
