The UCSF MR and PET/MRI at China Basin Landing is a cutting-edge imaging research and clinical facility within the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. Our mission is to support innovative, multidisciplinary research and advanced clinical imaging by providing access to the latest hybrid and standalone MRI systems, high-performance computing infrastructure, and expert technical support. 

We welcome collaborations with UCSF investigators and external academic and industry partners.

GE SIGNA™ 3T PET-MRI

This state-of-the-art hybrid system combines positron emission tomography (PET) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), enabling simultaneous acquisition of metabolic and high-resolution anatomic data. Ideal for oncology, neurology, and cardiology studies, the SIGNA™ PET-MRI supports: 

  • Quantitative PET with MR-based attenuation correction
  • Dynamic and static PET imaging 
  • High-resolution structural and functional MRI

GE SIGNA™ Premier 3T MR 

The SIGNA™ Premier is a high-performance 3 Tesla MR scanner optimized for neuro, musculoskeletal, abdominal, and cardiovascular imaging. Designed to support the most demanding research protocols, it features:

Siemens MAGNETOM VIDA 3T MR

The VIDA 3T MR is a versatile, high-resolution scanner tailored for precision imaging in both research and clinical workflows. Equipped with BioMatrix technology for motion compensation and patient-adaptive scanning, it offers: 

  • Robust imaging across neuro, body, cardiovascular, and pediatric applications
  • High-resolution functional imaging including perfusion and spectroscopy
  • Advanced 4D flow and parameter mapping for cardiac studies
  • Custom research protocols and access to the Siemens Research Collaboration Environment (RCE)

Siemens MAGNETOM Free.Max 0.55T MR

As one of the first low-field MR scanners in a major academic medical center, the Free.Max enables innovative research in accessible and cost-effective MRI applications. Its compact footprint and open-bore design support: 

  • Imaging of patients with implants or devices traditionally excluded from 1.5T or 3T
  • Lung and cardiac imaging with lower susceptibility artifacts
  • Rapid acquisition sequences tailored for motion robustness
  • Opportunities for AI-assisted denoising and reconstruction research
  • Outpatient and community imaging use cases
