A New Epic Dashboard Enhances Radiology & Emergency Department Collaboration
To streamline patient care and foster collaboration, the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and the Emergency Department (ED) have developed a new communication dashboard within Epic, UCSF’s electronic health record system.
The dashboard allows efficient, bidirectional communication between care teams in the two vital departments. A key feature: the dashboard allows Radiology and ED teams to respond to direct requests, which improves our ability to coordinate and fulfill patient imaging exams.
The dashboard features a customizable toolbar with pre-populated status options, as well as a free-text comment section, enabling seamless updates on a patient's readiness for imaging and the progress of their diagnostic studies.
A robust reporting feature provides both departments with a comprehensive historical record of all exchanges. This ensures transparency, accountability, and the ability to continuously refine and improve our interdepartmental communication.
Thank you to the Radiology and ED team members who led this project. By enhancing interdepartmental communication between Radiology and the ED, we can optimize workflow, reduce delays, and improve patient outcomes.
