Biography

Michael Dae, MD, is Professor Emeritus Residence in Nuclear Medicine Section at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Dae obtained his medical degree in Medicine from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 1976, and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology from UCSF. Currently, he leads an initiative to increase clinical utilization of cardiac positron emission tomographic imaging (PET) for patients to provide better diagnostic imaging with less radiation exposure, and greater patient experience.

As a research focus, Dr. Dae and his colleagues have developed extensive experience with radionuclide assessment of myocardial sympathetic innervation. They evaluate the ability of MIBG to map sympathetic innervation in various experimental models of cardiac disease, and have characterized the physiologic and electro physiologic consequences of abdominal uptake and distribution of the tracer. Also, Dr. Dae and his colleagues have extensive experience in the pre-clinical and clinical assessment of new medical devices in cardiovascular medicine, ranging from assessment of prototypes to the completion of GLP studies for FDA submissions.

Dr. Dae has published and written 93 articles, 27 book chapters, and 6 significant publications. He is responsible for conceiving studies, assisting with trail designs, supervising performances, and designing imaging aspects of the experiments.
