The Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging has a long record of excellence in clinical and academic radiology, and has one of the largest research enterprises funded through intra- and extramural funding and private donors. With numerous outstanding basic scientists and clinicians engaged in innovative imaging research across five principal campus units, the department provides a fertile ground for interdisciplinary collaboration. The T32 program exists to jumpstart the academic careers of junior radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians and to provide the essential foundation for developing a research program as an independent investigator.

Speakers

Peter Chang, MD
T32 Fellow
UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging

“Deep Learning Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging: Current and Future Trends”

Dr. Peter Chang, MD is a current NIH T32 scholar and clinical neuroradiology fellow at UCSF, as well as the recently recruited director of the Center for AI in Diagnostic Medicine at UC-Irvine. He is also co-founder of multiple startups including most recently Avicenna.ai, a company focused on deep learning for medical imaging. Dr. Chang’s unique perspective arises from experience both as a radiologist physician and software engineer with expertise in developing deep learning algorithms. His work has led to dozens of abstracts, manuscripts, six best conference paper awards (including recipient of the 2018 ASNR Cornelius G. Dyke Award), two provisional patents/copyrights, and top finishes in various competitions including the international 2016 MICCAI challenge. Dr. Chang is regularly invited to speak at various national and international conferences, providing insight into the strengths and weakness of current AI technology as it relates to clinical problems in medicine.

Lindsay Busby, MD, MPH
PGY-5 Diagnostic Radiology Resident and T32 Trainee
UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging

Advanced Imaging of Ovarian Cancer Using 68GA-PSMA-11 PET/MRI

Lindsay Busby, MD, MPH is a diagnostic radiology resident and NIH T32 Trainee in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at UCSF. Her research in the T32 program has focused on ovarian cancer. She received her MPH from Yale School of Public Health in New Haven, CT and her MD from New York Medical College. Both her NIH T32 traineeship and her four-year radilogy residency will be completed in June, 2018. For the 2018-2019 year, she plans to do a UCSF fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Ultrasound.
