UCSF’s Radiology Chair Is Named President-Elect of Radiological Society of North America

Ronald L. Arenson, MD, FACR, who chairs the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at UCSF, was named president-elect of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Board of Directors.  From 2012 to 2013, Dr. Arenson served as RSNA Board chairman.

As president-elect, Dr. Arenson will focus on the value and improvement of patient-centered care initiatives at the Society's annual meeting and throughout the year.

"As we enter an unprecedented period of change in our healthcare system, radiology must adapt in fundamental ways to embrace adding value and patient-centered care. As president-elect, I hope to work with the RSNA leadership to advance these concepts," he said.

Dr. Arenson is committed to the use of informatics tools to develop the future of patient service.

"In addition to its usual roles in education and research, the RSNA is in a unique position to provide informatics tools to practicing radiologists to improve the services we provide our patients and referring physicians," Dr. Arenson said. "As president-elect, I will continue to advocate for the development and deployment of these tools."

A member of RSNA since 1974, Dr. Arenson has served on numerous committees, including the Publications Council, Public Information Advisors Network, Research Development Committee and the Radiology Informatics Committee (formerly Electronic Communications Committee), of which he served as chairman from 1999 to 2005. In 2007, he was elected to the RSNA Board of Directors. In addition to his recent service as Board chairman, he has served as the Board liaison for the annual meeting and technology.
