Edward A. Sickles, M.D. is Professor Emeritus of Radiology at the UCSF School of Medicine and served as Chief of the Breast Imaging Section at the UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco for almost 30 years. Dr. Sickles is a prolific contributor to breast imaging education and the scientific literature. He has provided editorial services to 12 professional journals, has been the author or co-author of 10 books and monographs, more than 220 scientific articles, and almost 100 other scientific communications. He has presented papers at more than 200 scientific meetings and has been an invited speaker at more than 800 educational seminars and medical institutions in 42 states in the United States and in 31 foreign countries.
Dr. Sickles has also served on many breast imaging committees of the American College of Radiology since 1980, and has chaired the ACR Committee on Mammography Interpretive Skills Assessment since its inception in 1992. In his commitment to improving the science and art of breast imaging, Dr. Sickles has also served in a leadership position in 10 other professional societies and organizations, and on over 40 committees both nationally and internationally. He is a founding member and past president of the Society of Breast Imaging. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and special recognitions for his dedication, service, and contributions to breast imaging, including the Gold Medal of the Society of Breast Imaging and honorary membership in four international radiological societies.
