The section of Ultrasound provides a comprehensive range of procedures. Its three scanning rooms at Moffitt hospital, and four scanning rooms in the outpatient Ambulatory Care Clinic, are equipped with the latest Acuson Sequoia ultrasound machines. Clinical images are sent through a DICOM gateway and stored in the PACS archive for later retrieval. Research directions include: prenatal diagnosis of CNS anomalies with ultrasound and MRI; characterization of prognosis in congenital diaphragmatic hernia with MRI; characterization of vascular connections in twin transfusion syndrome with color and spectral Doppler sonography; and prospective randomized trial of fetal tracheal occlusion for in utero treatment of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
