The UCSF Pediatric Radiology Section offers pediatric patients and their families the opportunity to have access to the newest generation of high technology equipment resulting in the most sophisticated diagnostic examinations interpreted by world recognized experts. We aim to provide outstanding diagnostic service at the lowest possible radiation exposure for each patient.
The UCSF Pediatric Radiology section consists of three full-time fellowship-trained Pediatric Radiologists, one clinical fellow and two Radiology residents. The Pediatric Radiology faculty consists of Charles A. Gooding, M.D. who is Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics and has been Chief of Pediatric Radiology at UCSF for forty years. The Associate Chief is Robert Brasch, M.D. who has been on the faculty for thirty years. Heike Daldrup-Link, M.D., Ph.D. joined the Pediatric Radiology faculty in 2003. Additional Radiology faculty with expertise in Pediatric imaging are Charles Higgins, M.D., who is responsible for congenital cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and James Barkovich, M.D., who is responsible for pediatric neuroradiology. Pierre-Alain Cohen, M.D., who is on the staff at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), covers Pediatric Radiology Service at SFGH and contributes to coverage of the Pediatric Radiology Section at UCSF Children’s hospital as needed.
The Pediatric Radiology section covers interpretation of radiographic images of all children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the pediatric medical and pediatric surgical wards, and the emergency department. The Pediatric Radiology section performs and interprets all radiographic images, fluoroscopic procedures, body computed tomographic (CT) exams, body magnetic resonance (MR) imaging studies and positron emission tomography (PET) exams of pediatric patients. In addition, the Pediatric Radiology section provides coverage of the outpatient imaging facility at China Basin one day per week.
The Pediatric Radiology section provides clinical consultation for all of the pediatric surgeons, pediatricians, and residents and interns at our institution. We attend and present findings at the weekly meeting of the UCSF Pediatric Onclogy Tumor Board. We give numerous conferences for the NICU, PICU, and ward teams as well as for medical students.
Pediatric Radiology faculty members participate in numerous departmental, university, and society committees and contribute as speakers and reviewers for numerous national and international societies. Pediatric Radiology faculty members received numerous honors and awards, are editorial board members and reviewers of more than 30 scientific journals and have published more than 500 scientific publications.
