The
Department of Radiology is committed to maintaining the highest
possible standards of patient care and safety, from the moment a test
is requested through to performance and final reporting of an imaging
examination. This is true for all the tests we perform, whether it be
plain x-rays, CT, MRI, US, nuclear medicine tests, or an interventional
radiology procedure. In 2007, Professor Roy Gordon was appointed to the
position of Associate Chair for Safety, in recognition of the
commitment of the department to providing the highest quality of
patient care and also in response to the increasingly complex nature
and number of imaging tests conducted at multiple sites across the
institution. Dr. Gordon oversees all aspects of patient safety, and is
head of the departmental safety committee which meets every two weeks.
This committee routinely monitors measures of patient safety throughout
the department and responds both pro-actively and reactively to any
concerns regarding patient safety that arise in the department. We are
one of the few departments nationwide that have appointed a senior
faculty member to devote a substantial proportion of their time to
patient safety.
