Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines

Breast Screening Guidelines

  • Average risk women:  Annual screening mammography starting at age 40
  • High risk women:  Annual screening breast MRI and mammography (start earlier, 20s-30s)

Mammography detects calcification while MR is good at detecting enhancement so they work complimentary.

Breast MRI Screening is an ADJUNCT to mammography

UCSF approach: Alternate MRI and mammography exams every 6 months
