Randy Hawkins, MD, PhD, Program Director
Bernie Baccay, Program Coordinator

In addition to the Diagnostic Radiology residency, The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging also trains nuclear medicine residents in a three year ACGME approved program following their intern year. Led by Dr. Randy Hawkins, this program trains residents to become experts in interpreting nuclear medicine imaging studies, therapeutic application of radioisotopes, while at the same time gaining a wide exposure to future directions in molecular imaging, biomedical physics, and cross-sectional imaging.

As of July 2007, residency training length is as follows:

- Upon completion of internship, nuclear medicine residency training is three additional years.
- Upon completion of residency in another specialty, nuclear medicine residency training is two additional years.
- Upon completion of a diagnostic radiology residency, then a nuclear medicine fellowship is one additional year.
