In pediatric imaging, anesthesia is commonly thought to be necessary for obtaining high-quality diagnostic imaging, but an innovative program at the UCSF is challenging that idea. The Scan Without Anesthesia Program (SWAP) is a collaborative effort by clinicians, radiographic technologists, nurses and Child Life Specialists to prepare children for successful imaging without anesthesia.

Christopher Brunson, MD, an interventional radiologist, will join ZSFG. Kevin Sweetwood, MD, will continue with our musculoskeletal division. Allen Ye, MD, PhD, will join our Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital team as a neuroradiologist.

A team, including researchers from the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, investigated a new imaging tool for monitoring response to therapies in patients with glioblastoma (GBM).

A team of investigators from the Abuabara Lab at UC San Francisco, UCSF Radiology and the University of Arizona reviewed available literature on skin sodium to investigate its connection to total body sodium and to immunity.

During June, we honor and recognize the valuable contributions of our LGBTQIA+ colleagues in the department, UCSF, and beyond.

Congratulations to Henry VanBrocklin, PhD, FSNMMI, FSRS, recipient of the 2023 Paul C. Aebersold Award! Dr. VanBrocklin is a professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and director of the Radiopharmaceutical Research Program in the Center for Molecular and Functional Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He is also one of the core faculty for the Master's in Biomedical Imaging (MSBI) program. Dr. VanBrocklin received the award on June 25 at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Annual Meeting in Chicago.
